SMALLWOOD FAMILY HISTORY
THE SMALLWOOD FAMILY FROM SHEFFIELD, LATER IN MANCHESTER (TREE 410)
HISTORICAL BACKGROUND
A William Smallwood (c.1785 - 1843 Sheffield) married Mary Angel (1787 Carlton, Suffolk - 1855 Sheffield) in St. Peter's Cathedral, Sheffield in 1809, and the couple went on to have at least three children in the area including Joseph (1814) and Ellen Eliza (1827-1907). Ellen Eliza married William Moverley (1824-1876) and moved to the Huddersfield area, and their descendants include Stuart Moverley and Mrs J R Milner, both of whom are researching this line. Joseph married and had several children in Sheffield before moving with his family to Manchester by 1861. His son William (1837-1883) remained in Sheffield a little longer, but later followed his parents to Manchester along with his own wife and children, where his descendants flourished down to the present.
