SCOUTHAVEN - THE HOME OF 3RD CHISWICK SCOUT GROUP

The 3rd Chiswick Scout Group has been based at Scouthaven in Wilson Walk (next to Stamford Brook tube station) for many years.

The existing Scout Centre was built largely by volunteers when the former hut was destroyed by fire in 1978. At that time only external toilet facilities were provided, with the exception of a single, small toilet incorporated into the main building. However, the arrangements proved wholly inadequate for the current, very busy needs of the Scout Centre, which is host to a growing number of over 70 children of all ages, the Tara House School, Residents Associations and Amenity Groups meetings, and widespread local community use at other times. As a consequence, a Development Appeal was launched in 2002 with the aim of raising £65,000 for the purpose of upgrading the facilities. Modern toilet and shower facilities were added inside the Scout Centre with access for the disabled, central heating and hot water, a large lobby area and improved entry to handle the recent increases in traffic. Although the work has now been completed thanks to a loan, fundraising continues towards completion of the repayment of the cost of the works.

The location of Scouthaven is shown on the aerial photograph below.
