PRIDDLE FAMILY HISTORY

PRIDDLE FAMILY OF MELBURY OSMOND, DORSET

Apart from the early Paridel family discussed elsewhere, the Priddle name appears in Melbury Osmond from at least 1655 when John Priddle married there. A Thomas Priddle left a will in 1698.

An Aaron Priddle was buried at Melbury in 1715, and on the basis of first names it looks as if several of the later family members in the area may have been descended from him. By the 1730's, Aaron, William and Samuel Priddle were having children in the parish, and Aaron's descendant line has been researched and documented by Caroline Wilson, his 6g-granddaughter.

Previous researched by Ron Priddle raised the possibility of a link between the Melbury Osmond and Tintinhull Priddles, but the evidence for the tentative point of connection seems thin, and this remains a matter for further research.
