PRIDDLE FAMILY HISTORY

NOTES ON THE PARENTAGE OF ESTHER, SARAH and RUTH PRIDDLE

Esther (1787), Sarah (1789) and Ruth (1791) Priddle ware all baptised in Tintinhull, the daughters of Thomas and Elizabeth (Betty) Priddle. As both Thomas Priddle senior (1736-1807) and his son Thomas Priddle junior (1762-) were both married to wives called Elizabeth (Betty) at this time, it is unclear to which parents these three daughters attach. Thomas Priddle junior married Elizabeth Browne on 1st October 1786, so Esther at least (baptised 5 January 1787) looks a little too close for comfort to this marriage. The gap from 1791 until the next child of Thomas and Elizabeth in 1796 is also somewhat unusual if the three girls were also children of Thomas junior, although this may simply be a convenient place to assume a split. The girls could easily be attached to either family group, or split between the two. The precise parentage will remain opaque unless additional evidence can be added from wills or other subsidiary sources.
